Some Rendering Questions

Hello

I am new since Friday to SweetHome3D.
It is amazing software - very impressive.

I am doing my first few renders of my designed home.

Questions:

1. In viewpoint mode - you can change the opacity of walls - it is a very neat feature. If I have an opacity set for 50% - is it possible to render a png with this opacity setting. If so, please can you explain how.

2. Is it possible to render a png with a transparent sky and transparent ground.

3. When in 3D mode - I can rotate/pan and zoom in/out around a fixed point, is it possible to move left, right, up or down so I can center my home to the middle of the screen.

3b. I believe another way would be to move everything to x:0, y:0 - is it possible to move 3 levels all with rooms, walls, furniture in one go?

4. I watched a youtube video; the guy had a search bar on his furniture navigator window (left of the screen) - mine does not? How did he do this?

Thank you.
Chris

Re: Some Rendering Questions

Welcome on the forum smile

1. At the two highest quality levels, the transparency of walls is ignored.

2. No, Sweet Home 3D doesn't support transparent sky and ground in resulting PNG.

3. You should use 3D view > Virtual visit to place the point where you want.

3b. To move all the objects at all levels, choose Edit > Select all at all levels first, then drag and drop objects with mouse or use keyboard arrows. You may use also AdvancedEditing.sh3p plugin listed here.

4. Select Searchable list option in preferences.

Re: Some Rendering Questions

@smokeycoles

Since you are asking about transparent sky and ground, I assume your intentions are to replace the sky and the ground on a photo rendered in Q4 quality.

Here's what I do:
After having rendered a high quality photo, the easy way to create an alfa channel in SH3D, is to use Modify 3D view and chose a bright blue or green solid (not a color, but a jpg or png) as texture for ground and sky, and then create a photo in Q1. In the editor (Photoshop, Gimp or whatever), I select the background and sky colour, invert the selection and delete the rest – and then I have a perfect mask for sky and ground.

Don't feel tempted to take a short-cut and use this technique for the HQ-rendered image; you will get reflections that are next to impossible to handle in the post production.

Remember to store your camera position ( point of view) prior to rendering. That's the best way to be 100% certain that your mask will fit.
