I also experienced problems when drag-drop with Ubuntu. But I got the same behaviour no matter if I used original SH3D or my custom compilation. Does SH3D from www.sweethome3d.com enables you to drag-drop in your linus distribution?

Drag and drop doesn't work in Java in general under Ubuntu. It's an old bug, and don't know why Oracle/Sun didn't fix it during the past years.
