Having trouble with 2D floor plans

Hi, I was recommended to use this program by someone on another forum.

So, getting right into it, I'm having troubles importing some 2D floor plans for a house my wife are looking at. They are both PDF files, and the program tells me that type is unreadable, and because I am not too well versed in this type of program, I do not know what I can do?

Ideas?

PDF files are not supported at import time. Convert your PDF file into an image doing a screen capture or with a tool like this free service.

alright I don't understand, I converted both the top and main floors into JPEG files and then tried to import them as background images (as I was supposed to, right?), but nothing happens once I click "ok," what am I doing wrong?
