Using the plan function or an elevation image as a canvas for laying out pictures

I would like to lay out multiple pictures on a wall. Can you create the ability to create a rectangular box of user-specified size which can be filled with a .jpg file? This box could then be dragged to any location on to a plan or wall elevation image just like a furniture object.

You can already achieve this with the box found in the Miscellaneous category, changing the material of one of its sides. See also this video from 5'03".
