can i create sub categories of the main categories for funitures pieces?

Let's say i want to view dining, tables in a certain price range
is that possible?

If jjohnsson is a developer, he may add a filter to the table by implementing FurnitureFilter interface and calling setFurnitureFilter on FurnitureTable instance. [;)]
