I have no background in graphics and two days after starting, I have a convincing outlay of my house.

Now the question.

Window sills. What are my options to adding this to my house?

you have already some windows with sill in the furniture library.(http://www.sweethome3d.com/freeModels.jsp)
You can also find some sills in 3DWharehouse and import them in SH3D.

If you have found a window that you like but has no sill, use a box to create the sill, combine it with you window, export it, import it, checking the bow for window, and try that. Same will apply to doors if you wished to modify the frames
