How do I make countertops in kitchens...?

Anyone mind explaining to me how you would make a countertop in a kitchen? Im trying to use the "Kitchen Cabinet" that came standard with the program.

All kitchen cabinets from the 3D models page come with counter tops.
If you use the function Modify furniture --> Modify --> Materials you can even change the colour/texture of the counter top.
