What internet access is needed by Java?

I am interested in installing Sweet Home 3D on my Win7 x32 PC, which has the latest Java installed. I disable the Java plugins in Firefox and block internet access by Java with a firewall because of Java security vulnerabilities. See http://krebsonsecurity.com/2012/03/new- ... oit-packs/

If I understand correctly, I can use the offline installer, which is labeled "Download Windows installer" on the Download page, to minimize internet access by Java. Is this correct?

What sites are accessed on the internet during installation?

Since I already have the latest Java installed, which site connection attempts can I block and still have installation success?

I assume that I can download 3D models with Firefox and import them into Sweet Home 3D locally. If so, does Java need internet access after Sweet Home 3D installation?

Once you downloaded the installer, you can block anything you want on the Internet, and don't need to install Java on your PC. Sweet Home 3D installer provides its own version of Java (that's why the size of the installer is much larger that the Java Web Start version).

Still no access to Internet is required, except for links that point to Sweet Home 3D and other web sites in the help and about dialog. You can also download furniture libraries with your browser and install them without any access to Internet.

I have other applications that depend on Java, such as LibreOffice. If I uninstall Java before installing Sweet Home 3D, will other applications use the Java that comes with Sweet Home 3D?

Or are the two instances of Java independent?

When there is a new version of Java available (usually for security updates), is there anything related to Sweet Home 3D that I need to know?

No, the Java version that comes with Sweet Home 3D isn't registered in the system.

The Java version available with Sweet Home 3D installer won't be updated.
Note it's not a modified version of Java, so a hacker who knows where Sweet Home 3D is installed and how it's installed, could use the Java Virtual Machine that comes with Sweet Home 3D. But it's very unlikely.

I like your solution of including a separate JRE, which eliminates compatibility issues with Sweet Home 3D when the registered JRE is updated.
