system menus are not in english

I tried the offline installation and the java web start for this program and it starts up but all of the applicaiton menus (file, edit, view...) are in a non-english language. If I select an option that pops up a new window the contents of that window are in english. However, I can't read the application menus to know what I am supposed to do.

Any ideas?

Your system is probably not in English.
In the first menu, choose the penultimate menu item to open the Preferences pane. The language setting can be set in the first drop down list.

To the best of my knowledge the system preferences are in english. When I open the preferences box the top entry is called language and is blank. However, if I use the dropdown to select english nothing changes. I can select a different language and the unreadable items changes but are still unreadable to me.

Note that this only affects the menus that should be called file, edit, view, etc... that are at the top of the main window as well as any options underneath those menus. Based on the screenshots on the website I think that the menus should read "File", "Edit", "Furniture", "Plan", 3D View", and "Help".

If I select, for example, the preferences option then the windows that pops up is all in english. Additionally the upper left-hand pane that is the room tree-view list is in english.

I beleive the problem is related to the java on my system. When I go to the java control panel and hover over any button it too shows a non-english version of the text that should be there. I am yet to figure out why this is occuring but feel when this is fixed sweethome3d will work properly too.

As the offline version of Sweet Home 3D is bundled with its own version of Java, I don't think that installing Java again on your computer will change anything...
