apply texture only on a piece of an object

hi, when I apply a texture on an object, for example a bed, the texture is applied on the entire bed not only a piece. better explaination: if the bed have the support of iron, the final result after the texture application should be the texture (example wood) on the structure and the support should be iron. is this result possible or I need edit the model with a modeller?

You guessed right: if you want partial textures, you will have to use a modeller like Art of Illusion or Blender.
