Installing mini-blinds on/into windows

How do I go about installing mini-blinds on or into a window in my SH3D plan? I have tried several ways (importing blinds as a door/window, resizing, etc). I thought I had the mini-blinds installed correctly at one point, but there are blinds on both sides of the window from just one blind, eek! My wall thickness is 6", same for the window frame (the window, blind will auto re-size to wall thickness regardless), and I tried several ways to re-size the mini blinds to work. 3d Warehouse doesn't have the greatest collection. I was hoping to find a pre-made model, but could not find anything suitable or that I could manipulate.

I thought I could use Sketchup (Make-Free Version) to import an object file and was not able to do that as well. I was hoping to put the window and blind together in Sketchup to no avail. I wish there were an easy to use a program for models where I could put stuff like this together. I could take the plunge and purchase Sketchup, but for $600 (US)its just too much. I also tried art of illusion, but I just don't have the time to learn. I am spoiled as I used to work at a place where they bought CAD (Full Version) and it was heaven. Maybe Sketchup could invent an easy to use 3d modeler that wasn't rocket science to learn and use? [:)] Not trying to reinvent the wheel, just want mini-blinds on my windows.

Correction: I meant to say: Maybe SWEET HOME 3D could invent an easy to use 3d modeler that wasn't rocket science to learn and use?

Don't place the blind with the mouse.

Once you've installed the window, place the blind just near the window, give it the correct size, rotation and elevation, and then move it inside the window "hole" using the arrow keys. That way it will not take the width of the wall.

My solution would be to combine a window, mini-blinds, and a second window into one. Then I would Export as OBJ format and Import as furniture, making sure that I would check the door/window box.

Maybe that's too easy?

spakywalk, I think it's time for you to learn how to activate/deactivate the magnetism when needed. If you deactivated it (temporarily or permanently), you could place your blind anywhere without Sweet Home 3D trying to apply constraints on it.

Thank you all for your kind replies. I turned magnetism off and was able to re-size the blinds and they are now on the inside of the windows and the mouse worked just fine, looking good!

On another note, I thought I saw something in one of the SW write ups about displaying drawings on my website so others could walk through, but am not finding it. If you could please let me know if I am confused by something I saw elsewhere or if in fact this can be done, where can I find the write up at? I hope I can do this, it would be awesome. You can publish plans as images made from a SVG export and the 3D view with Sweet Home 3D viewer Java applet (the viewer is listed among the other downloads available for Sweet Home 3D).

I have to confess that I am a little confused upon downloading the viewer and looking at the ReadMe file. I assume I need FTP and HTML editor software to do complete the install? Or?

You don't need any HTML editor (at least during your first tests), but you'll need FTP to upload the viewer files + your sh3d file.

Thank you. I downloaded FileZila and found a tutorial on line as I haven't done this before, obviously.
